Holidays with Dogs
Last Christmas my wife, Meredith, and I decided to go away over Christmas. Normally, we’d leave our dog with someone to be looked after but this time it wasn’t really a good option. Time to find somewhere “pet friendly” to stay.
One of the first things I learned is that “pet friendly” seems to be a loose translation for “we don’t mind if you bring your dog along but it isn’t allowed inside anything (house, shed, carport, etc) and we don’t have any fences anywhere“. Needless to say this wasn’t our idea of pet friendly.
We already had our preferred destination in mind, somewhere around Yeppoon, and now just needed to find the right place. There weren’t all that many options but one that seemed to stand out was Kinka Palms. On paper, well, on screen, anyway, it looked pretty reasonable. Not super luxurious but a good location and what seemed to be the “right” attitude to pets.
During the booking process Meredith mentioned the dog and was told it wasn’t a problem. In fact we were told the owner had dogs, that they were only too happy to have dogs around and all about the great beach over the road.
So, how did it go? The short answer is that it was great!
Mike, the owner, and Murray, his off-sider, couldn’t have been more helpful. Both were very easy going and really made the holiday the relaxing time that it was. The rooms are not super-modern but very comfortable and have all the mod-cons you really need out of a relaxing holiday destination. The location was superb with a short walk over the road and through the dunes to the beach.
The beach went on forever and there wasn’t any problem with having our dog off her lead and allowed to just run around being a dog.
So, the whole purpose of this little post is to record that Kinka Palms is a great place for a holiday, especially if you’ve got a dog that you want to bring along.
